Our latest project is an Urban Secondary Terminus Station, inspired by the former Hull and Barnsley Railway’s Terminus at Cannon Street in Hull. The idea came from a wish do something a bit different to any of our previous layouts and the desire for it to be based on a local location.
The intention is that initially the layout will be set in the 1950-65 era. Unlike the real Cannon Street it is assumed some local passenger services continued to use the station alongside the main traffic of Parcels traffic, Perishables and Coal.
The total scenic area will be approximately 12ft x 2ft 6in with an overall gentle curved shape. This size enables the main station and approaches to be modelled to scale and a significant amount of the surrounding urban landscape to be modelled (including a section of the Barmston Drain!) We hope to capture the run down nature of the area and intend to include the main buildings and features of the area, though some compression and simplification will be necessary and it won't be an exact replica, hence the change of name to that of the road that will run along the front of the layout.
Fiddle Yard arrangements are still to be decided but a similar arrangement to Hoglington is currently favoured.
It is intended to use the new ‘Finetrax’ N gauge Code 40 track work for the scenic area. (Peco for the off scene areas) Rolling stock will be a mix of suitable ready-to-run and kit-built items from all the main manufacturers.
If you have any memories of the Station or can offer any information that will help in the construction of the layout we would be pleased to talk to you!
Hopefully you will be able to follow progress in this Blog.
