Timber...

Having worked out what we want to include on the layout and how it could be arranged, we have settled on three scenic boards of 4ft x 2ft 6in; the end two being rectangular, the middle angled at one end.

Thanks, particularly to the enthusiasm of one recent recruit to the team, the basic boards have been completed in under a month.

The boards are a plywood box structure (6mm thick for the sides and top, 12mm for the ends) with 1x1 softwood battens along the joins.

The odd shaped centre board. - The 'easy' square ones are complete and standing in the corner.

The three boards lined up for the first time
Legs are integral to the boards. There will be two sets on each of the square boards and none on the middle board (because its easier that way!)

Legs fold up inside the board for transit.
