Welcome!

Welcome to the News page for the Hull Miniature Railway Society N Gauge Group.
Our main aim with this blog is to chart the progress of construction of our New layout "Lockwood Street" and keep readers up to date with where you can see our other layouts exhibited plus other interesting events in the club.
Currently we have four active layouts available for exhibition. Full details can be found from the individual pages on this blog:
Hoglington: - A Seaside terminus set in the 1950s/60s

Red Wharf Bay - North Wales in the 1920s

Martini Junction - "Any time, any place, anywhere"
Willersley - The next step on from the 'trackmat'

Winter Progress

It may be a while since we have updated the Blog, but that doesn't mean we haven't been busy...
In the last couple of months work has progressed on several fronts.

Track laying:
Phase one of the track work is substantially complete. This consists of the complex station throat and the platform and storage roads in the station. As previously mentioned we are using the FineTrax code 40 N gauge track. The pointwork is being assembled in situ allowing the  flowing curves to be created. The points can be curved slightly where required by cutting part way through the webbing between the sleepers
The approach to the Station. The middle two roads are the mainlines. You can just see the start of the climb on to the embankment.

Building begins

The first signs of serious modelling on the layout are the first buildings.

All these are scrach-built, mostly using plasticard over a card inner structure. All are closely based on actual buildings,

This is the Railway Goods Offices. The most substantial of the railway buildings. The wall to the right is now the only remaining trace of the station still standing.

On Show: Lockwood St at Hull Model Railway Show 2015

Lockwood Street was introduced to the unsuspecting pubic at the Hull Model Railway Show last weekend.

As well as the baseboards we displayed the first few buildings to be completed by Ray, samples of the Finetrax track we are using alongside pieces of Peco code 55 and code 80 to demonstrate the difference in appearance, and a slideshow of some of the prototype photos we are using for reference.

While very much early days, as a local subject the layout attracted a lot of interest and importantly several people offered information about the original Cannon Street and the environs which is much appreciated.

If you visited the show then thank you!

Hopefully the Completed Layout will debut at Hull Model Railway show  in either 2017 or 2018.
